Each mobile is pieced and embroidered by hand. Handmade by women artisans of the Akha Biladjo workshop, this workshop is supported by the Phongsaly Forest Conservation and Rural Development Project. The Akha tribe live in the remote hills of the Phongsaly Province in Laos, and handicrafts have become a necessary source of income for these women. Akha women are very hard workers and can often be seen walking and embroidering at the same time.

In Laos, the Khamu use bamboo straws during festivals and special occasions. They place a pottery jar full of a local brewed alcohol on the ground and drink it with these straws at a length of 1 meter long.
After use, cover them in water with vinegar, boil them for 20 minutes then lay to dry ready to be used again.
